"Composing the Collection" with Professor Dorothy Hindman (Frost School of Music) | CREATE Grant Project, May 2021

I worked with Professor Dorothy Hindman from Frost School of Music, University of Miami, who received funding in Fall 2019 from the CREATE Grants Program for her project “Composing the Collection: Sonifying the Lowe Art Museum’s Musical Instruments and Art Works in Written Music and Live Performance.” Undergraduate and Graduate Music Composition majors selected and researched instruments and artworks from the Lowe Art Museum’s collections and composed original pieces based on these objects for the professional new music ensemble Duo Sequenza who performed the works. This project culminated in a live online broadcast on Wednesday, May 12, 2021.

In addition to learning about the Lowe Art Museum’s collections that inspired their musical compositions, the students also learned about grant writing, marketing, and live broadcast technology that will be of great benefit to their careers.
